福建省漳州市2018-2019学年高一下学期期末考试英语试题

2 .    You have the ability to decide if you are happy or not. Happiness is a choice. You can’t on someone else to make you happy.

You can choose your emotions(情感). True happiness comes from within; it can’t be forced by outside forces. So how do you choose happiness? The same way you choose a new pair of shoes. When you’re buying new shoes, you choose a pair that you like and feel good. You wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes that you don’t like or that don’t fit well, right? You choose it because that’s what you want to experience in your life. So why do we keep choosing emotions and feelings that don’t make us feel good?

Choosing to be after you realize your anger has shown up can be beneficial. We choose our feelings; no one can do that for us. If we let others influence our emotions, we are giving them power over us. When others cause us anger or pain, we are giving them our power.

We need to keep in check our feelings and not react immediately to what is thrown at us. We need to think our actions out instead of just reacting to what someone says or does.

Remember that we can always choose happiness. At first it will be difficult to just change your thoughts and feelings from anger, self-doubt, or fear to joy and happiness. But it is only a thought away. Don’t be lost in what happens to you unnecessarily but realize what is causing you to feel that way. Realize that thoughts, feelings and emotions can change. Then move on and choose to be happy.

福建省漳州市2018-2019学年高一下学期期末考试英语试题

3 .    When I first met George, I was in my early 30s. My children were just entering school life allowing me to escape from endless housework. At 65, George had recently left work and was seeking a rewarding hobby for his golden years. For both of us, we loved painting and we met at a local TAFE painting class. Thus began a friendship that was to last for 25 years —until the day he died.

George was an energetic man who lived life to the full. He loved his family, his friends, and was loyal and outspoken. As the only male in a painting class full of women, George quite enjoyed it. He ruled the roost(栖息处)and we were his hens. He loved his singular(单一的)role and looked after his hens with the same attention he gave to everything.

He took to painting with passion and devotion. He carefully housed his expensive painting tools a box—a red metal tool box—built to bear hard knocks. Not fancy, but smooth and shiny and very red.

In 2004, I learned that he was very ill and went to visit him. “He’s very confused and may not recognize you,” Penny, his daughter, warned. But as I bent over, George opened his eyes —“Bev!” he said, and with surprising strength, held my hand. ”I’ve always been hoping to leave my box to you. I’m afraid I can’t paint anymore, and you have the best talent and are most likely to use it,” he said. With tears in my eyes, I accepted the gift on the proviso(附带条件)he could take it back at any time. He never did. He died two days later.

Today I still use much of his equipment kept in the box. As I paint I big personality, generous spirit and unfailing encouragemen. The box is still in good shape, very red. The original shop sticker is still firmly in place although the price has worn off.

But that’s all right because to my mind something, like friendship, are beyond price.

【小题1】What does the author focus on in Paragraph 1?

Some people may become concerned about their privacy, especially in connection with the video recordings. Some people may worry that such recordings will appear on the Internet. Eugene Volokh, a law professor at the UCLA School of Law, says the machines have to be used in the right way and it will be interesting to see how state laws deal with this kind of video.

3 .    I don’t think I can recall a time when I wasn’t aware of the beauty of the ocean. Growing up in Australia, I had the good fortune of having the sea at my side. The first time I went to Halfmoon Bay, I suddenly had the feeling of not being able to feel the ground with my feet anymore.

For my 10th birthday, my sister and I were taken out to the Great Barrier Reef. There were fish in different colors, caves and layers of coral. They made such an impression on me. When I learned that only 1 percent of Australian’s Coral Sea was protected, I was shocked. Australian marine life is particularly important because the reefs have more marine species than any other country on earth. But sadly, only 45 percent of the world’s reefs are considered healthy.

This statistic is depressing, so it’s important for us to do everything to protect them. The hope that the Coral Sea remains a complete eco-system has led me to take action. I’ve become involved with the Protect Our Coral Sea activity, which aims to create the largest marine park in the world. It would serve as a place where the ocean’ s species will all have a safe place forever.

Together, Angus and I created a little video and we hope it will inspire people to be a part of the movement. Angus also shares many beautiful childhood memories of the ocean as a young boy, who grew up sailing, admiring the beauty of the ocean, and trying to find the secrets of ocean species.

【小题1】From the underlined sentence in Para.1, we can learn the author ________.

A.seldom went surfing at the sea
B.forgot his experiences about the ocean
C.never went back to his hometown
D.had a wonderful impression of Halfmoon Bay

【小题2】According to the second paragraph, Australian marine life ________.

A.is escaping from the Coral Sea gradually
B.depends on reefs for living greatly
C.may be faced with danger
D.is protected better than that in other oceans

【小题3】The Protect Our Coral Sea activity is intended to ________.

A.contribute to a complete eco-system
B.prevent more marine species being endangered
C.set up a large nature reserve for reefs
D.raise more teenagers’ environmental awareness

【小题4】Angus and the author created a little video to ________.

A.urge more people to take action to protect the marine species
B.inspire more people to explore the secret of the ocean

2 .    Katie always knew she wanted to be a performer. She was fond of Disney movies from an early age and would often sing along with her mom, Karen.

When Katie was nine years old, her happy childhood took a turn when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. When the doctor informed the Whetsell family that Keren’s disease was terminal, they made a decision. Disney World had been a longtime dream vacation for Karen. So in November 1997, the family packed up and headed to Disney World. Katie says she’ll never forget the moment that changed her life on that trip: After a long day at the parks, the Whetsells decided to see one of Disney World’s many nightly light shows. While watching, a Disney cast member performing in the parade came up to her mom and rested her hand on Karen’s shoulder. They exchanged smiles and, to this day, Katie remembered how at peace her mom looked. The whole family was touched and moved to tears. This was the day Katie decided she wanted to work for Disney.

After graduating from college, Katie went on to pursue performing for a living. She struggled for years, working as a waitress and trying to make it as an actor. Her hard work and passion finally paid off when she was hired to work on Disney Cruise Lines in 2009. Katie’s favorite friend in the Disney World is Dory in “Finding Nemo the Musical”. She says that Dory has taught her the value of living in the present moment and to “just keep swimming.”

Katie has never lost sight of the fact that she and others who work for the company bring joy to the lives of many every day. “Everything we do at the parks makes a difference to many families. It’s a way for us to help them forget. It’s amazing to be able to comfort others.” When asked what her mother would think of her working at Disney World, she takes a deep breath and allows the tears to flow. “I just feel like she’d be so proud. I can feel her presence often and I feel her having a part in what I do. It’s perfect.”

3 .    The latest data from Nature’s Calendar shows that the butterflies, newts and nest-building blackbirds have been spotted months before they would normally appear. An analysis of the conditions in 2019 found that all but one of the 50 spring events the scheme (计划)tracks were early last year, as a result of warmer winter temperatures. The Woodland Trust, which runs the Nature’s Calendar scheme, warns that many species are losing their seasonal cues (提示)as winters warm and seasons shift.

Increasingly unstable weather could tempt some animals out of hibernation (冬眠)too soon, only to be hit by sharply dropping temperatures. And some birds appeared to be breeding too late to make the most of vital food sources that appear earlier than normal, the Trust said.

Lorienne Whittle, at the Woodland Trust, said, “It seems that last year we almost lost winter as a season — it was much milder and our data shows wildlife is responding, potentially putting many at risk.”

And she said, “It appears that some species are able to adapt to the advancing spring better than others. Oak trees respond by producing their first leaves earlier and caterpillars seem to be keeping pace. But blue tits, great tits and pied flycatchers are struggling to react in time for their chicks to take advantage of the peak amount of caterpillars— the food source on which they depend.”

Active newts were recorded in late December in Cheshire and a blackbird was spotted building a nest at the beginning of January. Accordingly, a report for The Wildlife Trust suggested that hedgerows (树篱)be protected from being cut during the nesting season.
